A firefighter with California's Riverside County Fire Department has tragically died following a medical emergency that occurred as they responded to a house fire in Nuevo, officials confirmed Wednesday.
The incident began around 5:30 a.m. when firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire on the 31300 block of Marcuchio Road. Upon arrival, crews found a garage fully engulfed in flames, reported KTLA. Officials have yet to publicly identify the firefighter, who was an adult male, and further details regarding the medical emergency have not to fully be disclosed.
Injured during the incident were two residents, one male and one female, who sustained minor injuries and were transported for treatment, as per information obtained by NBC Los Angeles. Their present conditions have not been made available.
The fallen firefighter was hurriedly taken to Riverside University Medical Center where they were later pronounced dead, according to CBS News Los Angeles. A procession to honor the firefighter was announced to take place Wednesday afternoon in Moreno Valley. The cause of the blaze has not been determined, and fire officials promised to release more information at a later time.
