An elementary school teacher from Royal Oak, 38-year-old Martin Daryl Waskowski, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges including sexual exploitation of a minor and possession and distribution of child pornography. The charges stem from a December 3 stop at a Vermont border crossing, where Customs and Border Protection officers and HSI agents found digital devices containing suspected child pornography, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
A subsequent search of Waskowski’s Michigan home led to the seizure of additional electronic devices containing numerous files of child pornography, including material involving very young children. Investigators also allege he attempted to produce child pornography by using a hidden camera to record a minor in a restroom, and he remains in custody with a detention hearing scheduled for December 22 in federal court in Detroit, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
“These alleged crimes are disgusting,” said U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon. HSI Detroit Special Agent Matthew Stentz said the case focuses on protecting children and involved cooperation with HSI Burlington and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
