Travelers at Sacramento International Airport are facing delays and cancellations as the holiday rush winds down, leaving many struggling to return home. Reed Gibson described his experience: "We had an email earlier saying that it may have been delayed, and now we got an email saying it’s canceled," according to KCRA.
With limited on-site customer service, passengers have had to rebook flights over the phone, often facing frustration and few options. Erin Brandt said, "The first phone call, explains what I need to happen. I have to get down there today, and he's like, nope, we have no options for you," while some travelers have chosen to drive to other airports to catch flights.
Flight disruptions affected travelers over the holiday season. On last Saturday before the new year, Sacramento International Airport had 83 flight delays and two cancellations, down from 110 delays and six cancellations the previous day, FlightAware reported. Some travelers, including the Corby family, had only minor delays. With the TSA predicting 2.86 million flyers on the Sunday after Christmas, travelers had to plan carefully. Jenny Saetern and Shyla Saelee, who were traveling to Las Vegas, said, "We had it booked and planned well ahead, but the weather, how bad it’s been, it was kind of scary," as per FOX40. Some travelers experienced delays of up to three hours.
