The California Department of Public Health warned that a batch of eggs from Vega Farms in Dixon may be contaminated with Salmonella. The eggs, sold mainly in Sacramento and Davis, come in 12-count cartons and 30-count flats with handler code 2136. Eggs with sell-by dates on or before December 22, or Julian dates 328 and earlier, could be affected, according to Fox40.
A small, family-run farm, Vega Farms, issued a recall of approximately 1,515 dozen eggs due to issues with their processing equipment, though their flocks remain unaffected. Residents in Sacramento and Davis, where the farm distributes its products, are advised by the California Department of Public Health not to eat or open the recalled eggs and to return or properly dispose of any purchased eggs.
Vega Farms, which operates within a 25-mile radius, noted that it has "cleared out its product from the stores affected," stopping further distribution of the contaminated eggs, as reported by KCRA. The recall is significant given the farm’s four-decade history without such incidents, and public health officials urge consumers to follow disposal or return guidelines to prevent potential Salmonella infections.
