On Christmas Eve around 5:50 a.m., Deputy James Caravallo died in a vehicle accident while driving to the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center at the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and Point Pleasant Road. He lost control of his Chevrolet due to slippery road conditions, causing it to enter the opposing lane and collide with a large metal power pole, as reported by ABC 10.
Deputy Caravallo had served the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office for 19 years and was remembered as a loyal and dedicated team member. First responders attempted to save him at the scene, but he was pronounced dead, with the California Highway Patrol noting that the weather likely contributed to the crash.
"Earlier this morning, Deputy James Caravallo was tragically killed in a solo vehicle car crash on his way to work at Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center," according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page. "Deputy Caravallo was a dedicated employee who proudly served our agency for 19 years." The office shared condolences for his family and asked for thoughts and prayers. Authorities are investigating the crash.
