The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office received a $294,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to prevent and prosecute DUI and DUID misdemeanors. The funding will support a specialized prosecutor who will handle these cases, mentor new deputy DAs, and provide training for local law enforcement on emerging DUI/DUID laws, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

The grant also funds community outreach programs aimed at preventing impaired driving among adults and youth. Initiatives include the DA’s Citizens Academy, Youth Academy, and the Real DUI Court in Schools program delivered by Arrive Alive, CA, as reported by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

"Through focused efforts and strong partnerships, we are working toward a future where all people will be safe on California roads," OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty said. Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho added, "Every life lost or harmed by an impaired driver is one too many — and one-hundred percent preventable." With funding from OTS, the DA’s office will expand its work on impaired driving, including police training, educational materials for people charged with DUI/DUID offenses, and podcasts on these topics, as stated by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
