The City of Saint Paul is ramping up its efforts to empower young people through practical career experiences. According to a recent announcement, the city's Right Track youth employment program has kick-started the Right Track 200 campaign, aimed at setting up at least 200 employer-paid internships for local youths. With a rich history of facilitating internships, Right Track transcends the mere matchmaking between teens and employers — it’s been a block in the foundation of Saint Paul's future.

Last year, more than 1,000 youths from Saint Paul’s cost-burdened households, or those meeting certain employment barriers, secured internships, a testament to Right Track's expansive network and unwavering support. Interested employers can directly contribute to the education and future of the community by hosting a 2026 intern, with applications closing on February 6. They will join companies and organizations that have provided meaningful experiences for Saint Paul youth and played a part in strengthening the local workforce.

Mayor Melvin Carter showed appreciation for what these experiences represent for the youth of Saint Paul, stating, "Our young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today,” said Mayor Melvin Carter. “Right Track connects our youth with real-world career experiences and brings employers into meaningful partnerships that strengthen our whole community. Investing in the talent of our young people is how we build a city where everyone can thrive," according to the city's publication.

In the light of accolades, the Minnesota Department of Administration – Facilities Management Division was recently honored as the 2025 Employer of the Year. They were recognized for offering more than just a foot in the door—it’s a comprehensive, enriching program that helps to kindle the aspirations of the city’s rising stars. Plant Operations Manager, Chad Olson, highlighted the mutual benefits of the initiative, "Our partnership with Right Track closely aligns with our commitment to public service, community engagement, and workforce development. Hosting Right Track interns has been a rewarding experience, allowing us to gain valuable insights from their creativity, curiosity, and drive while supporting the professional growth of emerging young leaders. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Right Track," as stated in the city's release.

Moreover, Saint Paul's youth also acknowledged the individual efforts of outstanding supervisors. Among the names celebrated were Cindy Helback from the Metropolitan Airport Commission, Stephen Smith from Ramsey County Public Works, and Thao Vue from the City of Saint Paul Parks & Recreation. These individuals have exemplified dedication to their roles and exhibited a significant positive impact on their interns. The program's success stories and the efforts of its employer partners are visible on Right Track's website, which serves as a hub for prospective businesses seeking to contribute to career-readiness training and internships for local youth.
