According to KSAT, the incident took place just before 6:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lamar Street, where police initially responded to a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, it became clear that a shooting had not occurred, but rather a knife attack stemming from a drug-related dispute.
The confrontation involved 61-year-old Evaristo Torres and another man, aged 69, with the latter claiming self-defense as the impetus for his multiple stabbing of Torres. It all started when Torres brought out cocaine, which the other man deemed "not acceptable," leading to a physical altercation in the backyard of a home. "Pulled out cocaine," KSAT reports, citing the San Antonio Police Department's preliminary findings.
Subsequent to the melee, Torres tried to exit the scene but was soon detained by officers. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later charged with injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual - bodily injury. The SAPD has indicated that its investigation is active and ongoing.
