A blowup at a Northwest Side Motel 6 ended with gunfire in the parking lot and a rollover crash on State Highway 151 that San Antonio police say are tied to the same disturbance. One person was rushed to the hospital and one suspect was taken into custody. Officers responded to both the motel and the highway, and the wreck shut down lanes and jammed up West Side morning traffic while investigators tried to sort out how a fight turned into a shooting and then a crash, as reported by KSAT.
What Police Say Happened
San Antonio police told KSAT the trouble started with a physical fight in the parking lot of the Motel 6 near Loop 1604 and Bandera Road. Investigators say the father of a woman’s child opened fire on an SUV as her boyfriend tried to drive away, and that SUV later rolled over on State Highway 151 near Hunt Lane. The situation escalated from a physical fight in the parking lot to a shooting, SAPD Sgt. Michael Gonzalez said.
Injuries And Arrest
Police say the SUV’s driver was hit, thrown from the vehicle and left with at least one gunshot wound and a broken leg before being taken to University Hospital, KTSA reported. Officers found and detained the suspected shooter nearby. KTSA also reported that, according to police, the wounded man had multiple felony warrants. Authorities have not released any names or announced specific charges as detectives continue their work.
Highway 151 Traffic Snarled
The rollover forced closures on eastbound State Highway 151 at Hunt Lane and clogged traffic for hours, with TxDOT and traffic monitors reporting lane shutdowns while crews cleared the scene, according to mySA. Drivers were warned to expect significant delays until investigators finished at the scene and all lanes could be reopened later in the day.
Investigation Ongoing
Video and live reports showed a heavy police presence as detectives collected evidence and interviewed witnesses, and local TV coverage described the overall scene as chaotic, according to KENS5. The San Antonio Police Department says the shooting and the crash are being treated as parts of the same disturbance and has asked anyone with information to contact detectives.
