As the holiday season winds down, residents of San Antonio looking to responsibly dispose of their live Christmas trees can take solace in the city's initiative to provide free recycling options. In a move to encourage eco-friendly practices, the City of San Antonio’s Solid Waste Management Department has announced four drop-off locations operating from January 3 through January 14 for undecorated Christmas trees.
The department underlines specific guidelines for the trees to be recycled; lights, stands, artificial snow, and other decorations are a no-go, trees have to be bare, loose, and unbagged at the point of disposal, smaller live trees can also be placed in green organic carts during their respective weekly collection schedules. The provided drop-off locations will be open Tuesday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. except for the Bitters Brush Recycling Center, which will operate Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For San Antonians aiming to green their post-holiday cleanups, the following drop-off centers are available for use: Culebra Road Drop-Off Center at 7030 Culebra Road, Frio City Road Drop-Off Center locating at 1531 Frio City Road, Rigsby Road Drop-Off Center placed at 2755 Rigsby Road, and the Bitters Brush Recycling Center which you will find at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway as detailed by the City of San Antonio official announcement.
Additionally, residents who contribute to this recycling effort have the opportunity to benefit once more mid-January when they can visit the Bitters Brush Recycling Center and collect free mulch which is a byproduct of the recycled trees while supplies last, enriching their gardens and contributing to yet another cycle of renewal—a philosophy ingrained in the fabric of responsible waste management and environmental sustainability which is a crucial aspect of the Solid Waste Management Department’s mission to facilitate community participation in conscientious disposal practices.
