The San Diego Police Department reported a significant bust involving an illegal ghost gun, narcotics, and the arrest of a burglary suspect with the aid of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology. After a meticulous investigation by the detectives, a breakthrough was made when ALPR helped identify a vehicle associated with multiple burglaries in the Sorrento Valley region.
Early yesterday, a patrol unit in the same area located the suspect's vehicle. The situation escalated when the driver disregarded the officers' attempt to stop his vehicle, leading to a crash and a subsequent foot pursuit. The chase ended with the suspect's capture in Carmel Valley, as mentioned in the San Diego Police Department's statement.
After apprehending the suspect, a convicted felon who was out on bail at the time of his arrest, the authorities discovered more than just the remnants of the burglaries. Inside the car lay a trove of narcotics, ready for sale, alongside an AR-15 style ghost gun loaded with a suppressor attached.
The San Diego police have declared the seizure of these items from the streets a victory for community safety. "Drugs off the street. A dangerous firearm off the street. One less burglary suspect targeting our community," the police department claimed.
