According to Inside San Diego, December Nights will take place from Friday, December 5, to Saturday, December 6. This year, San Diego's signature holiday event is expected to draw a crowd of over 350,000 people over the two days. To ensure inclusivity and holiday cheer for all, the city-sponsored festival will remain free of charge, cementing its status as California's largest holiday festival that doesn't charge an admission fee.
Mayor Todd Gloria expressed enthusiasm for the longstanding tradition, saying, "December Nights has been part of San Diego’s story for nearly five decades, bringing families, neighbors, and visitors together to share the season’s joy." In a display of the local allegiance, Frankie J, a platinum-selling artist and San Diego native, is set to headline musically at the event with a live performance in the Plaza de Panama.
Adding to the mix of merriment, attendees can look forward to a new après-ski inspired tavern adjacent to the main stage, providing a prime viewing location to catch the holiday light show projected onto the Museum of Art facade. This 21-and-over lounge is designed to momentarily transport guests to a cozy alpine setting, complete with holiday cocktails and pub games. The festival will commence with a tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. on the Spreckels Organ Pavilion stage.
