The National Weather Service in San Diego is forecasting a warm surge for the region, with temperatures expected to rise well above seasonal norms. According to the NWS San Diego, weak Santa Ana winds will continue through Tuesday, affecting the coastal mountain slopes, foothills, and parts of the Inland Empire; meanwhile, residents can expect a toasty Tuesday with highs 10-20 degrees above their average December day.
And it looks like things are only going to get hotter before they cool down again. "High temperatures will continue to warm through Wednesday, to as much as 15 to 20 degrees above average for portions of the inland valleys" reports the National Weather Service San Diego, so if you've been itching for some summer vibes, Mother Nature's got your back – wednesday’s midweek high temperatures are predicted to hit the mid 80s, so break out your shorts and flip-flops, but don't get too comfortable because as we move into Thursday, things are set to cool down a bit. However, it's still going to be warmer than usual this time of year, we're talking 8 to 12 degrees above average over the weekend.
The mild northeast winds, which have been caressing the coastal mountain slopes, are expected to gust up to 35 mph before subsiding on Wednesday morning. So while you're enjoying those warmer temperatures, keep an eye out for some leftover breezes that might ruffle your hair or papers on the desk. On Thursday, however, the winds are expected to subside, becoming weaker and more localized.
Looking ahead towards Friday and the impending weekend, we can anticipate high temperatures to modestly drop, but they're sticking around 8 to 12 degrees above what's typical for this time of year near the coast to the inland valleys, and the lower deserts are looking to hover around 80—sounds like a prime time for those late-year beach visits or desert explorations. Furthermore, "For the early to middle part of next week, dry weather is expected to continue" as per the NWS San Diego, so whether you're longing for a last grasp of fall warmth or wishing for a whisper of winter's chill, it looks like the former's in store a bit longer.
Marine conditions are expected to remain safe and serene with no significant tumult forecasted through Saturday, ensuring smooth sailing for any maritime ventures. For our weather enthusiasts and citizen reporters, though, Skywarn activation is currently not on the docket.
