San Diego residents can expect a shift in weather conditions as a weak northerly flow brings variations in temperature to the area, according to the National Weather Service San Diego. Coastal and valley regions are expected to experience a warming trend on Monday, while inland areas are anticipated to have cooler temperatures. The forecast also anticipates offshore breezy conditions to kick in on the same day. "Winds turn offshore and breezy for Monday," stated a weather notice from NWS San Diego.
Further details provided by the National Weather Service highlight the emergence of weak to locally moderate Santa Ana winds as Monday progresses, with an expected decline by Tuesday. This would result in warmer and drier weather, significantly reducing marine layer cloud coverage. The forecast for the upcoming week suggests a similar pattern of Santa Ana winds later into the week. "Chances increase for another round of weak to moderate Santa Ana winds late Wednesday into Friday, peaking Thursday," the NWS San Diego notes. Peak wind gusts are predicted in certain areas, such as below passes and canyons, potentially reaching up to 50 mph near the base of the Cajon Pass.
Marine conditions are expected to remain untroubled, as no hazardous situations have been forecasted through Friday, providing some respite amidst the gusty wind scenarios projected for coastal regions. For those heading to the beach, nature will be making its presence felt, with very high tides expected from Wednesday through Saturday. This could lead to minor tidal overflow and beach erosion, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, when elevated surf comes into play. Information from the National Weather Service extended forecast mentions that "chances of these impacts are higher Wednesday and Thursday mornings as elevated surf combines with the high tides."
As far as aviation is concerned, coastal and valley areas will experience low clouds and fog in the morning, but these conditions are expected to clear up later in the day. "Offshore northeast winds 20-30 kts with locally higher gusts will continue in foothills this morning and spread into parts of inland valleys after 17Z," according to the Area Forecast Discussion from NWS San Diego. These conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon but are expected to diminish after 02Z. Otherwise, the majority of the region can anticipate clear skies and visibility restrictions to lift, allowing for VFR conditions.
