A 19-year-old from Sandy, Oregon, Ruben Charles Estanislao Garcia, has been sentenced to 90 months in prison for stabbing his mother's boyfriend in the neck, according to a report by the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office. This sentence is reported to be the maximum allowed under Oregon state law for the charge of second-degree assault, which Garcia pleaded guilty to in the Clackamas County Circuit Court.

The violent incident occurred on the evening of August 7, when Garcia's concerned mother contacted her 45-year-old boyfriend for help with her son's aggressive behavior. Upon his arrival, the boyfriend was confronted by Garcia, who was armed with a knife. The assailant made multiple downward thrusts at the man’s neck as he tried to enter the front door. The victim was able to fend Garcia off, potentially saving his own life.

Officers from the Sandy Police Department responded to the scene where they discovered the bleeding man on the front porch, trying to stanch a deep puncture wound near his jugular — a mere 1½ inches threatening a vital passage. The victim was quickly losing consciousness when the officers arrived to administer emergency medical attention.

The district attorney's office, in a statement obtained by Clackamas County News, lauded Sergeant Jason Coates of the Sandy Police for his role in the case. Garcia, meanwhile, had attempted to confront the first responders aggressively before being subdued and arrested. The victim was subsequently transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment.

Deputy District Attorney Josh Cutino led the prosecution, which culminated in Garcia's sentencing on December 15. Detailed information on this case can be found under Clackamas County Circuit Court case number 25CR44280.
