A man was found deceased inside a Santa Monica residence late Monday evening, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities. Santa Monica police, responding to a 911 call made around 9:30 p.m. about a potential assault at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and 18th Street, discovered a man with significant injuries who was later pronounced dead, as reported by CBS Los Angeles.
According toKTLA, Santa Monica Police Department's Lt. Gilmour clarified that the incident is believed to be "an isolated incident contained within the household," stating that "there is no ongoing threat to the community." Another man inside the home was taken into custody in relation to the death, although details surrounding the relationship between the two individuals have yet to be disclosed by police.
The ownership of the home is recorded to be that of musician Jubilant Sykes, yet it is unknown if Sykes has any direct involvement with the tragic event, or if he resided there, according to KTLA. A neighbor indicated to KTLA reporters that police shared information suggesting the victim was killed by his son, who does not live at the home, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Adding to the complexity of this case, authorities mentioned that the mother encountered her son assaulting his father upon entering the home, as per NBC Los Angeles. It is believed that the son, who has a history of mental illness, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. The exact catalyst for the altercation is still unclear, but officials emphasized the situation is contained and poses no further danger to others.
Homicide detectives remained on-site the following morning to unravel the sequence of events that led to the man's death. Crime scene tape cordoned off the area, signaling the seriousness of the ongoing investigation. The identity of the deceased has yet to be released as the inquiry progresses, with little additional information being made available for public consumption at this juncture, ABC7 Los Angeles reports.
