In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Santa Rosa Police made a substantial fentanyl seizure earlier this month following a routine traffic stop. On December 6, a Santa Rosa Police Department patrol officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on the 2500 block of Cleveland Avenue. The details of the incident were posted on the department's Facebook page, revealing that 37-year-old Santa Rosa resident Fabian Chavez-Carranza was found with an estimated kilogram of fentanyl, enough to equal about 50,000 lethal doses.
The Santa Rosa Police notes that the driver, Chavez-Carranza, appeared nervous as the officer approached his vehicle, where he was seen reaching toward the the back of the front passenger seat. The officer obtained consent to search the vehicle and was alerted by a Sonoma County Sheriff's Office detection K9 to the presence of narcotics. After the dog's signal, a probable cause search was conducted, resulting in the fentanyl discovery.
Following the seizure, Chavez-Carranza was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail on charges including possession of a narcotic for sale (11351 H&S) and transportation of a narcotic for sale (11352 H&S). Law enforcement officials obtained a bail enhancement for Chavez-Carranza, setting the amount at $100,000.00.
