Austin's police department has reportedly made a second arrest tied to a lingering 2021 homicide case. As per CBS Austin, an individual by the name Lamar James, age 29, has been slapped with a first-degree murder warrant in connection to a slaying that took place outside an East Austin coffeehouse back in the summer of 2021.
This fresh development surfaces almost sixteen months following the grim discovery of James Burrows' body. Burrows was found fatally shot in the parking lot of Cherrywood Coffeehouse on E. 38 ½ St. The scene unfolded in the early morning hours of August 1, 2021, when Austin 911 was alerted about a person sprawling lifelessly in the parking lot. As relayed by FOX 7 Austin, the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office concluded the tragedy as a lead-induced homicide.
James currently finds himself behind bars on an unrelated stint, but now faces the new charge filed on Dec. 17. Jaylon Tyrell Miller, picked up in February 2022, was the first person accused in Burrows' death, marking James as the second suspect to be ensnared by law enforcement in this ongoing investigation.
Both suspects are entangled in a case that has left the local community looking for answers. While the details surrounding the motive and full narrative of what transpired on that summer eve remain scant, the additional arrest could mark a step toward closure for those affected.
