
Shebra Evans has been appointed to the Montgomery County Council following Gabe Albornoz's resignation on December 1. Council President Natali Fani-González confirmed the appointment, praising Evans’ civic service and professional experience.
Evans, who served eight years on the Montgomery County Board of Education, focusing on education and economic initiatives, said, "I am honored to be appointed to serve on the Montgomery County Council until December 1, 2026." According to Montgomery County, she will contribute her experience to the Education and Culture Committee and the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee.
Council President Fani-González announced updated committee assignments, naming Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles to lead the Health and Human Services Committee. Sayles holds a Bachelor's in Public Health and a Master of Public Administration.
"I am honored to be appointed chair of the Health and Human Services Committee and am grateful for the confidence," Sayles said in an official statement. She plans to use her public health expertise to support data-driven, community-focused policies in Montgomery County.
