A violent incident disrupted what should have been a routine shopping trip for a Los Angeles County deputy and his family at Macy’s iconic Herald Square store in New York City. During the attack, the deputy’s 38-year-old girlfriend was stabbed multiple times while changing their 9-month-old daughter’s diaper in the store restroom. The infant fell from the changing table amid the chaos, prompting a mix of reactions from bystanders—some offered help, while others reportedly began recording instead of assisting, according to PIX11.
Good Samaritans stepped in to help, with one woman safely picking up the child and another tending to the girlfriend’s injuries, providing a moment of compassion amid the chaos. The deputy, expressing relief and gratitude, later told FOX 2 NOW, “I just want to thank those two girls because we didn’t get a chance to thank them.”
After the attack, the deputy and his girlfriend were able to subdue the assailant until store security and police arrived. The attacker, identified as 43-year-old Kerri Aherne of Massachusetts, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where the girlfriend was treated for six gashes sustained in the attack and is expected to make a full recovery.
