Three adults were rushed to a hospital on Monday after a stabbing in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, where officers arrested a man at the scene. Police said the victims' injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but the area around the crime scene stayed busy late into the night as investigators worked to piece together what happened. City officials have not released the suspect's name or said what might have sparked the attack.
Police response
Officers were called around 9:41 PM to the area of Sixth and Natoma streets for reports of a stabbing and arrived to find three adults suffering from apparent stab wounds, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Paramedics took all three victims to a nearby hospital, and officers at the scene developed probable cause to detain a suspect there, the outlet reported. Authorities said the victims' injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Suspect taken into custody
During the initial investigation, officers located and arrested an adult man, though the department did not immediately release his identity or specify the charges, as first reported by KRON4. Police said they developed probable cause at the scene, but details about what led up to the attack remain murky. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing any available surveillance footage in hopes of filling in the gaps.
Victim conditions and SoMa safety
The three victims were taken to a local hospital with injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The San Francisco Police Department urged anyone with information to call 415-575-4444 or text TIP411, starting the message with "SFPD."
The stabbing unfolded along Sixth Street, a corridor city officials have focused on this year with stepped-up patrols and enforcement aimed at tamping down open-air drug use and street disorder. Even with those efforts, merchants and residents have continued to voice concerns about day-to-day safety in SoMa.
Investigation continues
Police said the investigation remains active and that they have not yet released a motive or announced formal charges, which will be handled by the District Attorney's office, KRON4 reported. Officers are still canvassing the neighborhood for additional witnesses and evidence and are asking anyone with video or tips to contact the department's tip line. Authorities also emphasized that tipsters can remain anonymous when providing information.
