In what's becoming a cherished tradition, the South Milwaukee Police Department celebrated its 11th annual Shop with a Cop event recently, where local law enforcement officers paired up with children from the community for a day of shopping, games, and festive treats. The South Milwaukee Police Department's Facebook post recaptured the joyful atmosphere of the event, noting that "We had BLAST on Saturday celebrating our 11th annual Shop with a Cop event with 12 kids from our community!"
The initiative not only sought to quickly wrap gifts but also to strengthen bonds between officers and community youth. The local youngsters enjoyed a day filled with activities and returned home with not just toys and games but also essential festive supplies, as each family received a gift card for holiday meals, according to the South Milwaukee Police Department. An outpouring of community support was evident, with businesses such as Wal-Mart raffling off bikes and handing out goodie bags, while Kwik Trip, Wendy's, and Better Together provided ample nourishment with breakfast, lunch, and hot drinks.
Focusing on the community-driven aspect, the police's post emphasized the collective effort, stating, "First and foremost, Debbie from Human Concerns and Hebah & Enrique from Wal-Mart are the best partners! Thank you for all the time you take to help us coordinate," as stated by the South Milwaukee Police Department. Additional thanks were extended to local eateries and volunteers who donated various items including homemade hats from Karen's Creations, ensuring warmth for the children and their families alike.
Moreover, local businesses and community members proactively stepped in to cause a significant impact, their monetary donations making possible an event of this scale. The heartfelt gratitude of the South Milwaukee Police Department was conveyed through their message: "THANK YOU ALL for your generous support."
A salute was given to the law enforcement officers and volunteers who dedicated time outside of their duty hours to engage with the community's youth. With Santa also making an appearance, the day was designed to be a memorable one for the participants. In the words of the South Milwaukee Police Department's post, "Lastly, the officers, volunteers, and of course, the big man himself - Santa! They all spent their off time making a positive impact on our community's youth in just a few hours. THANK YOU!".
