An officer-involved shooting that took place last Monday in South San Francisco has been making waves as the department released further details. Just after the early morning fog had lifted at around 5:10 AM, two officers responded to an incident on Sandra Court. The encounter rapidly escalated when Luis Francisco-Manzo, a 28-year-old resident of South San Francisco, reportedly armed with a knife, charged at the officers.
Initial non-lethal efforts to subdue Francisco-Manzo proved futile, resulting in officers Brendan Hart and Martin Corona discharging their firearms. Both officers, with a combined experience of over 15 years in law enforcement, are now at the center of an investigation led by the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Despite being shot, Francisco-Manzo survives and is currently recovering in a local hospital, according to the South San Francisco Police Department.
Further throwing light on the circumstances of the shooting, body-worn camera footage has been made public. The link to the video, along with a summary of the incident, can be found on the police department's official website. This transparency comes amidst growing public demand for police accountability in officer-involved shootings.
