Christmas morning on San Antonio’s South Side turned tense after a man was wounded in a suspected drive-by shooting, leaving neighbors rattled on a day usually reserved for family and quiet breakfasts. The victim was shot in the shoulder and taken to a hospital in stable condition, and police quickly blocked off the area near Division and Orey while they canvassed for witnesses.
Police: Early Call, Few Solid Leads
According to KENS5, officers were called out around 6:39 a.m. today, when they found the man with a shoulder wound. Investigators said the victim could not identify a suspect or vehicle and, at times, gave conflicting information about what happened.
City Pushes Holiday Gunfire Reporting
The shooting unfolded as the city has ramped up holiday safety messaging and patrols, including its "Call the Shots" campaign and a Holiday Crime Reduction Task Force, the City of San Antonio notes in a news release. Officials are urging anyone who hears or sees gunfire to report it at 210-207-7273, or to call 911 for immediate threats, per the release.
Investigation Still Taking Shape
KENS5 also reported that the victim is known to shelter at various vacant properties in the area, something police said has complicated the investigation. As of the outlet’s latest update, detectives had not identified any suspects and were working tips while checking nearby surveillance footage.
