St. Augustine's annual Christmas Parade will take place this Saturday, causing congestion downtown. The parade is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to around 11:00 a.m. According to the City of St. Augustine, residents should plan their routes as some roads will begin closing as early as 8:00 a.m.
San Marco Avenue will be closed to traffic from south of the W. San Carlos intersection down to West Castillo Drive. Other closed roads include S. Castillo Drive/Avenida Menendez, Cathedral Place, and parts of Cordova Street. The parade starts at the Mission Nombre de Dios, goes through downtown, and ends on Orange Street. People who want to avoid the parade route can use the Historic Downtown Parking Facility, accessed via US 1 and West Castillo Drive. Free park and ride shuttles will begin at 8:00 a.m.
The parade requires changes to traffic flow, and the city has provided important information for drivers. The city announcement details that starting at 8:30 a.m., traffic will be stopped on S. Castillo Drive/Avenida Menendez, Cathedral Place, and Cordova Street north of King Street. These streets will gradually reopen as the parade finishes, with all roads scheduled to be clear by 11:00 a.m.
