In an effort that warmed hearts this holiday season, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office carried out a gesture of kindness that underscores the spirit of community. As part of their "Shop with a Cop" program, deputies presented a 17-year-old girl, Kaylee Starnes, who is bravely fighting stage 4 high-grade glioma with a much-needed gift: a new laptop to aid with her schoolwork. This gift was not merely about the technology it encapsulated but a symbol that the community stands staunchly alongside Kaylee and her family during this formidable challenge.
The social media post by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, captures the essence, of their initiative, "This Christmas season, our Shop with a Cop organization and our Deputies, were honored to help bring a special gift to a brave 17-year-old girl recently diagnosed with stage 4 high-grade glioma." The message continued by expressing admiration for Kaylee's strength and courage, which has evidently touched many within and beyond the community.
Upon consulting with Kaylee's family about what she wanted or needed, the answer was clear—a laptop, to keep up with her educational needs despite facing health adversities. In a period marked by uncertainty and struggle, such support from local law enforcement serves as a beacon of solidarity, revealing the deep threads of care that weave a community together.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office hoped that this act of giving would signify to Kaylee and her family that they are far from solitary in their fight. Their post culminated with a heartfelt seasonal greeting, "Merry Christmas to the Starnes family from all of us here at St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office!" reinforcing the message of unity and communal support that defines the season's truest intentions, despite, the adversities one may face.
