The City of St. Louis has extended the Code Blue program through December 9, due to ongoing cold weather. The emergency shelter, active since November 26, provides refuge for those in need. Walk-ups are welcome from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; after 9 p.m., individuals should call the United Way 211 Helpline at 211 for shelter assistance.

According to the City of St. Louis Facebook post, there are currently 285 emergency shelter beds, with the ability to increase to 345 if needed, in addition to 400 year-round shelter spaces. Walk-up shelters are available at locations including Peter & Paul – Jugan Shelter in North City and Peter & Paul – Sidney Shelter in South City.

Transportation to shelters is available from designated rally points between 5 and 7 p.m., including the Urban League Women’s Business Center in North City and Loughborough Commons Parking Lot in South City. Each site offers a warming bus or indoor warming area, along with a Metro Call-A-Ride shuttle staffed by a driver and outreach worker. The City reports that all individuals and families seeking shelter since the Code Blue activation have been served.

The extended Code Blue activation shows the City’s commitment to supporting residents, especially those at risk in freezing temperatures. Residents needing alternative transportation should contact the United Way 211 Helpline. The community is encouraged to stay informed and use available resources. Shelter demand is expected to decrease by tomorrow if temperatures and wind chills rise above the Code Blue threshold.
