Residents of St. Paul, mark your calendars for an upcoming public hearing where the Board of Zoning Appeals will be making some crucial decisions on various property developments in the city.
The public hearing, where the items are not set in a stone agenda, will see the Board discussing an array of proposals, and the applicants are urged to be present to address any queries. Among the subjects, Andria Tormoen's request to install a larger-than-regulation real estate sign at 1517 Grand Avenue is up for consideration. She is looking to get approval for a sign that exceeds the zoning code's six-square-foot limit by a whopping 18 square feet.
Other items on the new business agenda as detailed in a recently published document, include John Mathern's bid to construct a new single-family dwelling on Howell Street North with a proposed backyard that's 8' shy of the city's requirement. Joe Swalboski is also looking to bend the rules by adding an extra speaker box for drive-through services at 2065 Old Hudson Road, doubling the permissible amount.
Not to be overlooked is Anthony Adams and Ryan A+E, Inc.'s comprehensive plan to develop a six-story mixed-use structure at 855 Cretin Avenue South. Here's the kicker: they're aiming for a 10' height variance over the existing River Corridor Urban Open Overlay District's limit, hopeful to capitalize on a previous variance for the same.
For those who seek to voice their opinions on these matters, they can send their input until 2:00 p.m. December 5, 2025, to [email protected]. Just a heads-up, make sure your submission includes your name and address for the public record. Anything submitted post-deadline will not be a participant in the BZA's review. After the new business is handled, the meeting will adjourn, wrapping up another session of civic engagement.
