Stone Oak is getting a serious sugar rush. La Panadería is opening its largest San Antonio café in the neighborhood tomorrow, and the bakery is rolling out its first-ever mascot, Don Lino, to cut the ribbon. The 6,600-square-foot outpost is set to serve pan dulce, customizable tortas, and all-day breakfast, along with a full beverage program and expanded indoor seating and covered patio space. A midday grand-opening party will give guests a chance to meet Don Lino and sample the menu.
Inside the new Stone Oak flagship
Located at 1011 N. Loop 1604 E., the 6,600-square-foot café takes over the former Brick House Tavern + Tap and sits on a property with around 100 dedicated parking spots, according to MySanAntonio. The Stone Oak site will be La Panadería’s largest location so far and is slated to keep weekday hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekend hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., per that report. The buildout combines a full bakery production area with a roomy dining layout designed to better handle those infamous weekend lines.
Menu, drinks and Don Lino
On the menu, La Panadería plans to serve its signature pan dulce along with salads, customizable tortas, and all-day breakfast, while the drink list ranges from espresso and fresh juices to beer, wine, and cocktails, according to CultureMap San Antonio. CultureMap also reports that the grand-opening celebration will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, when Don Lino will be on site for a meet-and-greet. The mascot’s backstory, written by a member of the Cáceres family, is meant to mirror the brothers’ childhood baking memories.
Investment and jobs
The Stone Oak project is listed as a roughly $3.5 million investment and is expected to bring about 100 new jobs tied to the location, according to KENS5. Company leaders say the buildout is intended to deliver a flagship-style experience, with on-site baking and expanded service. The spend lines up with a broader multi-site expansion push the bakery has been pursuing across the city.
What this means locally
La Panadería’s story started at a farmers market and has grown into a city-wide brand since 2014, and the Stone Oak café further cements the bakery as a regional draw, MySanAntonio notes. For nearby residents and holiday shoppers, the larger footprint and plentiful parking should make this spot an easier stop than some of the downtown locations. Expect early lines on Wednesday as fans turn out for a first look at Don Lino and the new space.
