Stone Oak’s dining scene is about to level up. Katerina, a chef-driven restaurant from San Antonio talents Justin Manzi and Greg Carter, is slated to open in early January, the owners say. The team is promising bold flavors with a side of polish, pairing inventive small plates with a focused beverage program and a hospitality-first front of house. A firm grand-opening date is still under wraps, and the owners say they plan a series of soft openings before the full public launch.
Menu Teasers And Dining Style
Early menu previews shared with the San Antonio Current hint at a lineup that leans rich, shareable and a little indulgent. Dishes in the works include coriander-crusted duck breast, calamari, wood-roasted Wagyu meatballs, ginger-soy Brussels sprouts, prosciutto-and-fig pizza and a maple-peanut butter pie for dessert. The team says plates are designed to hit that sweet spot between familiar and fresh, with a signature shrimp Katerina meant to anchor the seafood side of the menu.
Space And Renovation
Katerina is taking over the former Frida Mexican Restaurant space on Stone Oak Parkway, a roughly 9,856-square-foot footprint that is getting a serious interior overhaul. Project filings show about $525,000 in interior work, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation entry reported by MySA. The renovation is set to modernize finishes and rework the large room for a chef-driven menu and an expanded bar program.
Chefs And Vision
The kitchen will be led by Justin Manzi, a Culinary Institute of America graduate whose resume includes time at Cover 3 and Goodfolks, alongside Greg Carter, a San Antonio native who has cooked in Michelin-starred kitchens, according to the San Antonio Current. The pair is leaning into seasonal ingredients and shareable plates meant to work for both lively group dinners and quieter date nights. Staff hiring and training are underway as the team gears up for opening service.
