Residents of the DFW area are getting an opportunity to enshrine their personal journeys into the annals of history, thanks to a collaboration between Lewisville Public Library and StoryCorps. The library, located at 1197 W. Main Street in Lewisville, is the latest stop on the StoryCorps Mobile Tour, set from Dec. 5-8. This venture aims to gather and house a fascinating mosaic of personal narratives, reflecting the diverse tapestry that is America.

According to a press release from the City of Lewisville, locals can register in advance for a limited number of one-hour recording sessions, which are available on Dec. 5, Dec. 6, and Dec. 8. Each session will guide participants through the process of story recording, covering topics from the intimately personal to the broadly historical.

Participants won't only leave with a digital copy of their story, but they'll also have the choice to contribute their recordings to the StoryCorps digital archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. This ensures that their tales—whether mundane or extraordinary—will resonate through the ages. The public is also invited to a free "Preserving Stories Workshop" today at 11 a.m.-noon at the Lewisville Public Library. During this event, attendees will learn from StoryCorps staff about freely accessible tools to record and preserve their own stories.

Founded in 2003, StoryCorps carries a simple yet profound mission: to showcase the inherent value in every story and, in turn, foster a deeper sense of connection and empathy. Since its inception, the organization has curated what has become the largest single collection of human voices ever gathered, all housed within the digital archives at the Library of Congress. The Lewisville engagement is the latest in a series of national efforts to encourage Americans to share their narratives, to believe in the humanity and possibility found in each story, as reflected in the countless stories told since the tour’s inception.
