Big moves in Sin City's bureaucratic chess game—as the Las Vegas City Council has unanimously voted to usher in a new era for the city’s Human Resources department. Sue Brown, who's been holding down the fort as deputy director, got the nod to lead the department starting this January, according to an announcement on the city's official bulletin.
Brown is set to replace the outgoing Vince Zamora, who has been the city’s HR honcho since 2020. Her tenure will not just be about keeping the workforce happy but also working closely with city leaders. She’ll be wrangling the complexity of collective bargaining negotiations, and she’ll have a hand in hooking top executive talent. It’s a journey that began for Brown back in 2005 when she joined the crew as a Human Resources technician and quickly laddered up through a series of promotions, landing as deputy director just last year.
The city manager, Mike Janssen, was the one to cast the deciding vote, pending the council's thumb’s up. Brown's got the academic chops too, a graduate of UNLV with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration—safe to say, her roots run as deep as her commitment to the city she'll continue serving. A local through and through, Brown's planting her family tree in Vegas, with her husband and three kids sharing in her life's work and passion.
