The Metropolitan Police Department has apprehended a suspect in connection with a homicide that shook the Northeast community earlier this month. The shooting, which claimed the life of 20-year-old Roy Lee Bennett Jr., occurred inside an apartment on Morse Street, leading to an immediate investigation by local authorities.
According to a press release from the MPD, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Morse Street on the evening of December 5 following reports of gunfire. On arrival, they discovered Bennett, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and despite the efforts of DC Fire and EMS personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The breakthrough in the case came on December 30 when the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 16-year-old Keyonte Johnson of Bladensburg, MD. Charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated), Johnson is being prosecuted as an adult under Title 16. This legal action reflects the gravity of the accusation and the community's expectation for justice in the wake of such a violent act.
