Last night in Sacramento, a routine check on a car with a missing rear license plate led to a high-speed chase and arrest. The driver ignored the deputies’ signals and drove recklessly before crashing.
The driver, Mitchell Smith, collided with another motorist before losing control and hitting a concrete curb, disabling his car. Smith, who had outstanding felony warrants and was on Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS), was arrested without further incident. No injuries were reported.
Smith was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, held without bail. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office noted they cannot release his booking photo because his offenses are classified as “non-violent,” a designation that raises debate about public safety and transparency.
