The Hays County Sheriff's Office has reported an ongoing investigation into a series of drive-by shootings, which has led to the arrest of Abraham Herrera, who is now facing felony charges. It is declared that Herrera is implicated in a November 3 incident where a homeowner was seriously wounded while sleeping, as shots were fired into their residence on Sante Fe Run in Kyle.
Soon after the incident, deputies found the home riddled with bullets and located spent casings on the street, yet with no clear intention behind the attack. According to FOX San Antonio, Herrera was initially arrested on November 12 after a separate shooting incident, wherein an AR-style firearm was confiscated from him. Authorities are investigating a possible link between the incidents as they work to determine whether the violent acts are connected.
Further investigations linked Herrera to an additional shooting in Martindale, Texas, which occurred over the Thanksgiving weekend. The coordinated effort among various law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Rangers and the Austin Police Department, allowed for this suspected serial shooter to be detained. On December 19, Herrera found himself again in custody, this time due to a warrant issued by the Texas Rangers, with digital evidence backing the allegations against him.
The connecting thread in these cases was established definitively on December 22, when investigators were able to match the shell casings conclusively from the Kyle scene to the AR-style firearm taken from Herrera, as CBS Austin reported. This discovery may serve to illuminate this shadowy affair, presenting tangible proof that the weapon he possessed was used to grievously alter another's life in a slumber they had presumed safe.
