An attempted carjacking in Aurora ended almost as quickly as it began last Thursday morning. According to a social media post from the Aurora Police Department, a man found himself the target of a robbery while fueling his GMC Yukon on East Colfax Avenue. Two individuals launched an assault on the unsuspecting man and quickly seized his vehicle. The incident was confirmed through security footage.
The police were able to swiftly locate and apprehend the suspects after conducting thorough neighborhood checks. Both suspects were found merely blocks away from where the incident originally took place, not quite the great escape one might anticipate from such a bold crime. The Aurora Police Department noted, "Yep, their big get-away was to drive down the street." According to the victim's account and evidence found on one suspect, who had visible blood on his hands, authorities were able to conclusively identify the culprits.
The two men taken into custody have been identified as 37-year-old Mark Houston and 32-year-old Joseph Sibomana. They are now facing charges for robbery and third-degree assault. The Aurora Police Department was grateful for the quick and efficient work of the officers involved, citing the poor planning of the suspects as a factor that greatly facilitated the resolution of the situation.
