In a bid to support Pierce County families struggling with food insecurity this holiday season, Commencement Bank in collaboration with Tacoma Venues & Events and Nourish Pierce County is hosting the second annual "Hams for the Holidays" at the Tacoma Dome. The event, slated for December 19, will offer ham and a limited number of alternatives for those in need, mirroring the drive-thru turkey giveaway organized by the Tacoma Police Department prior to Thanksgiving. As reported by Tacoma News, the growing need for food aid has been a key motivator behind this initiative.
The CEO of Commencement Bank, John E. Manolides, expressed a strong commitment to the Tacoma community amid escalating food prices and increasing demand for assistance. “As we enter our second year of ‘Hams for the Holidays,’ we are so grateful to work with our amazing clients and local businesses to support our community – especially during a time when the cost of food is rising and the need for assistance is greater than ever. It is a privilege and an honor to be able to provide local families with a holiday meal and to celebrate the true meaning of the season; giving back,” Manolides told Tacoma News.
Those who wish to receive a ham are encouraged to arrive at the Tacoma Dome's Lot G as early as possible on the date of the event. The giveaway is scheduled from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, or until supplies are exhausted. The organizers stress that participants may have to wait in line, indicating a first-come, first-serve basis for the distribution.
Appreciation for the event's success extends to several local supporters, including South Sound Business, Rush, Hannula, Harkins & Kyler, and BMW Northwest to name a few. These businesses, along with others such as Peninsula Properties, LLC and Corona Steel, Inc. have contributed significantly to bring this event to fruition for the second consecutive year.
