Tampa residents should brace for a flurry of holiday events this Saturday, December 6, causing significant traffic disruptions downtown. As reported by the City of Tampa, activities including the OnBikes Winter Wonder Ride and the 2025 Santa Fest Parade & Tree Lighting will attract large crowds throughout the day. The advisories warn of road closures starting as early as 6 AM, urging the public to plan routes in advance and to expect parking challenges and increased congestion.
Specifically, Water Street and surrounding areas will be closed between 6 AM and 11 AM for the Winter Wonder Ride, with the event kicking off at 9 AM from Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park. Santa Fest festivities will shut down roads beginning at 9 AM, with the parade stepping off at 1 PM down Madison Street to Ashley Drive and culminating near Polk Street. Following the parade, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park will host the tree lighting ceremony around 6 PM, packed with live entertainment expected to bring holiday cheer amid the busy conditions.
Additional high-profile events, such as John Mulaney's comedy show at the Straz Center and sporting fixtures including a Tampa Bay Lightning game at Benchmark International Arena and a Tampa Bay Sun game at Blake Stadium/Suncoast Union Field, are scheduled to commence at 7 PM. The overlap of these numerous events, as per the City's warning, hints at an unusually bustling downtown atmosphere, with a high volume of visitors anticipated to converge on the area.
These combined activities form a "blizzard" of seasonal celebrations, with authorities recommending that those participating in or attending the events allow extra time for travel and navigate the city with patience.
