Sniper, a dual-certified patrol and explosive ordnance detection dog who began his service in 2016, died after years of dedicated service to the city. The Tampa Police Department social media post paid tribute to the canine, detailing his years of commitment alongside Corporal Nicholas Baez (Ret.).
Born in the Czech Republic in 2014, the beloved K9 worked diligently to protect and serve until his retirement in March 2020. As part of his duties, Sniper was tasked to expertly sniff out potential threats and safeguard citizens with precision and dedication. According to the Tampa Police Department's post, even after stepping down from active duty, Sniper continued to be a valued member of Corporal Baez's family, embodying the bond that develops between a K9 and their handler over years of service.
The Tampa Police Department's message remembered Sniper not just as an effective partner in the mission to ensure public safety, but also as a loyal companion, saying, "Thank you, K9 Sniper, for your service to our city. Your impact and your loyalty will never be forgotten."
