A Tarrant County jury has delivered a guilty verdict against Raymond Miller, a 65-year-old man, for the crime of assault impeding breath or circulation on a family member. Miller, who has a prior conviction for homicide involving a former girlfriend, was found guilty in a case that pointed again to his violent tendencies.
The conviction stems from an October 2021 incident, in which it was reported that Miller viciously attacked and attempted to strangle his girlfriend during a disagreement. With his history of violent crime, the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office did not hesitate to seek a severe penalty. "Miller was a habitual offender and we asked the judge to sentence him to life in prison," the office stated in a social media post. The judge, however, sentenced Miller to 35 years behind bars, a sentence that aims to protect the community and punish the perpetrator for his actions.
Most of the information regarding Miller's case was made publicly available through a Facebook post by the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office. The post went on to commend the Fort Worth Police Department, saying, "Thanks to the Fort Worth Police Department for their work on this case and for their commitment to keeping our community safe."
The prosecution team, notably Assistant District Attorneys Morgan Blair and Jaimie Jernigan, alongside Investigator Kristina Gonzalez and Victim Coordinator Clara Salvatierra, were instrumental in bringing the case to a close. In a conflict where the lines are too often blurred by silence and fear, their efforts to assiduously pursue justice are a testament to the legal system's potential to effectively respond to crimes of domestic violence.
