The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced a temporary closure of one lane of westbound Interstate 70 in Wentzville for concrete pavement repairs. According to MoDOT, the closure extends from Wentzville Parkway to David Hoekel Parkway and began at 8 p.m. yesterday, with work scheduled to conclude at 9 a.m. today. The repairs are weather-dependent.
The urgency for these repairs stemmed from a lumber truck flipping over earlier in the day, causing substantial damage to the new pavement. As motorists grappled with the delays, crews worked diligently through the night to mend the unforeseen impairments. This work is part of the larger "Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project," which was put in motion with a November 2024 contract and is expected to span the years 2025-2028, as mentioned on the MoDOT official website.
Missouri’s FY2024 budget includes $2.8 billion in General Revenue funding for the Improve I-70 project, which calls for the construction of a third lane along nearly 200 miles of the interstate from Blue Springs to Wentzville. The funding supports planning, design, construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation work, including adding a third lane in each direction along the corridor.
MoDOT said motorists should expect additional lane closures, traffic shifts, and detours as work continues on the Improve I-70 project. The department encourages drivers to check its website for updates on current and upcoming closures and project progress.
