Boston is reeling from the fallout of a street takeover that escalated into fiery chaos back in October, and now a third arrest has been made in the ongoing investigation. Nineteen-year-old David Antonio Moran of Norwalk, Connecticut, was apprehended early Thursday, as per NBC Boston's report. Moran faces charges that include burning a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of fireworks, disturbing the peace, and conspiracy, for his part in the events that unfolded on October 5 at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street in Boston's South End.
On the morning of October 5, over 100 individuals took over the streets, throwing fireworks, cones, and poles. A Boston police cruiser was set on fire. Two Rhode Island teenagers had previously been arrested, and Moran is the latest suspect. He is expected to appear in court in Connecticut as a fugitive from justice, WCVB reported.
Video footage showed the crowd targeting police cruisers, and Moran’s alleged involvement led authorities to his residence, where he was arrested. Boston officials will provide more details during a media briefing scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities, including Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey and former President Donald Trump, expressed concern over the incident. Similar events that weekend have prompted a wider crackdown on street takeovers and illegal car meet-ups to protect public safety.
