Three men have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that took place early last year on Avenue Q in Houston, as the culmination of an investigation that spanned nearly a year. The suspects, Jacob Lee St John, 24, Raul Gallegos, 23, and Damien Vega, 22, face capital murder charges in the 177th Criminal District Court for their alleged roles in the January 21, 2022 shooting, which resulted in the deaths of two men, according to a news release from the City of Houston.
The incident, described as a home invasion by Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, occurred when multiple assailants reportedly entered the premises at 7132 Avenue Q where gunfire followed and the two victims, Juan Ramirez, 41, and Apolonio Alvarado, 37, were shot and another male was assaulted both Ramirez and Alvardo suffered severe injuries, Alvarado dying at the scene and Ramirez succumbing to his wounds on June 1, 2023. A third individual received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
During the ongoing investigation, HPD identified St John, Gallegos, and Vega as the assailants through witness statements indicating that masked men entered the house and began firing, after which they fled on foot. While Gallegos and Vega are already in custody for other unrelated charges, St John was apprehended yesterday by the HPD’s Southeast Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, HPD stated, according to the City of Houston.
The case underscores the persistence of law enforcement in the face of violent crime, bringing a chapter of this tragic story close to closure for the families of the victims who were senselessly taken.
