Tragedy struck in Pompano Beach yesterday evening when three teenagers were involved in a fatal accident along North Federal Highway. Local 10 News reports that the crash occurred around 7 p.m., approximately a mile south of Copans Road, involving a white sedan that eventually struck a bus stop and a light pole.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the sedan lost control and collided with another vehicle before the horrendous crash ensued. Deputies dispatched to the 1600 block of North Federal Highway found the mangled car at the scene. All three victims, boys aged 15, 16, and 18, were rushed to the hospital; however, they did not survive the ordeal. NBC Miami reported that the driver of the second involved vehicle did not sustain injuries, and there were no other reported casualties.
The aftermath of the crash left the roadway shuttered to traffic as investigators pieced together the events leading to the teenagers' deaths. Broward County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carey Codd emphasized the gravity of the incident in a statement obtained by Local 10 News: "Any loss of life in a situation like this is absolutely tragic, especially to have three young people die in a crash like this." Authorities have embarked on collecting evidence, taking witness statements, and searching for video footage that could shed light on the disaster's cause.
The authorities persist in their efforts to decipher the tragedy’s origin. "They are taking witness statements, gathering evidence, looking for video that will help them try and understand what led up to this tragedy," Codd said. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected as the Sheriff’s Office uncovers more information about the crash, as noted by Local 10 News.
