Times Square will ring in 2026 with an extra patriotic touch, featuring its iconic Ball Drop in red, white, and blue. For a historic first in 120 years, a second Ball Drop is scheduled on July 3, 2026, to mark America's 250th birthday, following only wartime blackouts in 1942 and 1943 when the Ball did not drop.
The July event will include a "dynamic pyro finale," set to "America the Beautiful," as part of the celebrations, as reported by New York Post. Rosie Rios, Chair of America250, described the plans as aiming for "the most inspirational celebration this country and maybe the world has ever seen," according to ABC7NY.
At midnight on New Year's Eve, "America Gives," a national service initiative under America250, will launch to encourage volunteer hours nationwide. America250 will also participate in the New Year's Day Rose Parade in Pasadena with a float themed "Soaring Onward Together for 250 Years." President Donald Trump announced the "Freedom 250" initiative to support 250th anniversary events, as per ABC7NY. Officials said, "As the city continues to work on the details, nothing is finalized, and conversations are ongoing," as mentioned by New York Post. Celebrations will include fireworks, community events, student contests, and oral history projects across the country.
