A stretch of Western Boulevard is about to get a temporary makeover that'll likely detour and delay your usual route. The N.C. Department of Transportation says contractors will close westbound lanes and occasionally slow eastbound traffic from midnight to 5 a.m. between Dec. 15 and Dec. 18.
Western Boulevard westbound will be closed between Chaney Road and I-440, with drivers detoured onto Gorman and Hillsborough streets. Eastbound traffic may face multiple 20-minute slowdowns as crews install new overhead signs as part of the I-440 improvements project.
Drivers should plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and stay cautious around work zones and equipment.
