Early Tuesday morning, a devastating collision on Interstate 20 claimed the lives of two people and left another in critical condition. Fort Worth Police responded to the incident in the eastbound lanes near Granbury Road, where a pickup truck and an SUV had collided just after 2:20 a.m., as reported by NBC DFW. Upon arrival, they discovered a passenger ejected from one of the vehicles, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tragically, the drivers of both vehicles were pinned inside the wreckage. One driver was eventually extricated and transported to a local hospital, but remains in critical condition. The other driver died from their injuries at the scene, as detailed by WFAA. Fort Worth traffic detectives are currently leading a meticulous investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Following the crash, a substantial section of eastbound I-20 was shut down, causing significant delays for morning commuters. Traffic was closed at Hulen Street and extended to Trail Lake Drive. Two lanes were reportedly reopened by 6:45 a.m., providing some relief to the congestion. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes, including Altamesa Boulevard, Interstate 30, or Loop 820, until the full reopening of the highway.
