Heads up, Nevada commuters: if you've got plans involving Interstate 215 next week, you might want to allow some extra time for travel. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced a series of lane restrictions and shoulder closures along a stretch of I-215 for an ongoing pavement preservation effort. This project focuses on improving the road quality over nearly four miles, stretching from the I-15 interchange to Windmill Lane.

The schedule kicks off bright and early at 6 a.m. each day from Monday, December 8, through Friday, December 12, with intermittent shoulder closures affecting both directions between I-15 and the Airport Connector. And for those preferring the lesser-known routes, be advised: the right lane on westbound Hidden Well Road at Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed during these same hours on Monday, December 8, as per an update from the NDOT.

Later in the evening on December 8, from 9 p.m. to the wee hour of 5 a.m. the following Tuesday, north and southbound travelers on Las Vegas Boulevard at Hidden Well Road will also face a right lane closure. This pattern will reoccur nightly on Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan around those times if you're hitting the Strip. Additionally, on Thursday night, December 11, the westbound I-215 off-ramp to Russell Road and Frank Sinatra Drive—northbound on I-15—is scheduled for closure, reopening in time for Friday's early morning traffic.

NDOT encourages drivers to stay alert in work zones and consider alternate routes when possible. The transportation department is partnering with Waze to keep the public informed on highway restrictions. Keep in mind, these planned traffic restrictions are susceptible to shifts due to weather conditions or other unforeseen factors. For the most current updates, keep an eye on the NDOT's announcements.
