Authorities in Pima County are on the lookout for a suspect following a double shooting that occurred at a Goodwill store in Tucson. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the shooting took place on Friday at the establishment located at 7650 East Valencia Road. The suspect, whose identity remains unknown, is described as a Caucasian or Hispanic male, roughly 6 feet tall, and around 200 pounds. As the investigation proceeds, both victims are still fighting for their lives in critical condition at a hospital.
Shortly after the shooting, new images of the person of interest were released by the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Based on parking the stolen vehicle connected to them, a white 2012 Volvo XC 90, with the Arizona license plate number C4A8Z4, the suspect, was captured on camera near E. Irvington Road and S. Palo Verde Road, as reported by KOLD News 13. The vehicle has since been located approximately 10 miles from the site of the crime.
Both employees of Goodwill, the victims, include a man and a woman who were shot during their shift at around 9:30 a.m. According to the same report from KOLD News 13, the man sustained a single gunshot wound that resulted in life-threatening injuries, and the woman was shot multiple times. An earlier person of interest was detained and questioned but has since been released by officials.
In the wake of this tragedy, Matthew Flores, Goodwill's Director of Marketing, shared heartfelt concern for the victims and their families. "With heavy hearts, our thoughts and prayers are with our employees and their loved ones in the wake of the terrible event that took place at our Valencia Donation Center this morning," Matthew Flores told KOLD News 13. Going on to express his gratitude to those who responded first, Flores added, "Goodwill would like to thank the first responders and healthcare personnel for their quick and professional response in a time of crisis."
As the Pima County Sheriff's Department continues to appeal to the public for assistance, they urge anyone with information on the suspect to avoid approaching him and to contact 911 or 88-CRIME to stay anonymous. Community members are reminded to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that could aid in the ongoing investigation of this distressing event at the Tucson Goodwill.
