Two Chicago Police Department officers were injured in an early morning incident on Lower Wacker Drive in the Loop, as reported by WGN-TV. Around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, the officers found themselves in a predicament while responding to a call. They were traveling eastbound in a marked squad car, according to the WGN-TV report, when they were forced to maneuver unexpectedly to avoid another vehicle, ultimately colliding with a raised center median.
The crash, occurring in the 500 block of East Lower Wacker Drive, resulted in the officers suffering minor injuries, described as "fair" in condition according to officials who spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times. At an area hospital, the two officers were admitted and are recuperating from the incident. The Chicago Sun-Times notes that despite the crash, it was fortunate that no other vehicles were caught up in the damage and no pedestrians were injured.
Police have launched an investigation into the crash specifics, but thus far, have reported no other injuries and no additional vehicle damage beyond the squad car. The emphasis on the officers' quick actions seems to highlight their intent to avoid causing a potentially more severe accident.
